HMRC have recently announced that tax returns, as we know it, will end with the introduction of Making Tax Digital which will mean taxpayers and their agents having to review and agree the information that has been digitally submitted to individual tax accounts from third parties. This is a fundamental shift of responsibilities and further information will still need to be submitted to HMRC for those who are self-employed, landlords, make capital gains, have foreign income, or are regarded as non-resident or non-domiciled.
Those who are self-employed or are landlords will have to make quarterly digital submissions to HMRC using accounting software.
